Points only have value if you still have them when you book. Here are the rules for the main programmes UK travellers use.
- Avios (BA, Iberia, Qatar, Aer Lingus): expire after 36 months with no activity. Earn, spend, buy or share at least one Avios every 36 months to keep them.
- Virgin Points: never expire.
- Delta SkyMiles: never expire.
- Air France-KLM Flying Blue: you need an Air France, KLM or SkyTeam flight every 24 months.
- Amex Membership Rewards: usually don't expire while your card account is open.
Expired BA Avios can't be bought back, so set a reminder or use a free tracker if an account goes quiet.
